Hiking & Trekking in Koh Samui

If you think Koh Samui is all about beaches and cocktails, you’re missing out on some pretty great hiking spots. Getting off the beaten path here means wading through jungle trails, stepping over small streams, and catching views that most tourists don’t bother with. The hike up to Lad Koh Viewpoint is a favorite among locals,it’s steep but manageable, and when you reach the top you get a neat panorama of the coastline and coconut groves spread out below.

Don’t expect paved paths or clear signposts everywhere. Trails can get slippery in the rainy season, which runs from October to December, so wear proper shoes and pack enough water. If you time your trek early morning, you'll avoid both the heat and the crowds near popular spots like Secret Buddha Garden, tucked deep in the hills near Maenam.

One tip: chat with vendors in local markets around Nathon or Lamai,they often know hidden tracks and quiet waterfalls not on any map. And bring a phone with GPS, because cell signal can be patchy once you start climbing inland. Koh Samui’s hills may not be Everest, but they’ve got character, wildlife, and a whole different pace from the beachfront hustle.
