Sunset Cruises in Koh Samui

If you’ve never seen Koh Samui’s coastline from the water as the sun dips low, you’re missing something special. Sunset cruises here aren’t about fancy boats or loud parties. Instead, many are laid-back affairs, where you can sip a cold drink, watch fishermen pack up for the evening, and see the sky turn insane shades of orange and pink.

One of my favorite spots to watch the sun set from the boat is around Koh Taen or the smaller Koh Mudsum. The water there is calmer and quieter, with fewer boats crowding the horizon. You’ll often spot fishing nets and lanterns starting to flicker as darkness approaches. If you’re into snorkeling too, some cruises offer quick stops before the sun goes down, and trust me, snorkeling under a cooling sky is something else.

Pro tip: Try to pick a small group or private boat rather than the big touristy catamarans. It’s more peaceful and you’ll get to chat with the captain or crew about local life. And bring a light jacket – it can get surprisingly chilly when the wind kicks up after sunset. Koh Samui’s sunsets are unforgettable but catching them from a gentle boat really connects you to the island in a way sitting on the beach can’t.
